Radio 45 at it’s core is a recording project: we write and record original songs — available now on all major streaming platforms. Making records is what we, as a group, were born to do.
We were also born — and trained — to be entertainers. We love performing the songs we’ve recorded in a live setting. But we know most people aren’t going to enjoy an evening of originals songs they don’t know performed by a band they aren’t super familiar with. We get it.
As a band we adopted a strategy early-on to craft featured world-class tributes shows honoring some of our favorite bands. We hope that when we perform songs people know and love — songs by Tom Petty, U2 and Cheap Trick — we’d earn enough goodwill on any given night to toss a few of our original songs into the mix.
It works well — our tribute shows and original Radio 45 songs have been well received.
During the process of establishing our tribute acts we inadvertently created an identity problem by using the band names Petty 45, U245 and Cheap Trick 45. It was confusing. After consulting with a local design firm we decide to re-brand. Over the next few weeks our tribute acts will transition with new names and graphic identities:
Petty 45 is now Echo: A Tribute to the Music of Tom Petty
U245 is now Streets: The U2 Tribute
Cheap Trick 45 is now is now Budokan: A Tribute to Cheap Trick
The Radio 45 roots of these tribute acts will remain ever-present in the new branding. The omnipresent red 45 circle-badge is a part of each new design — although it is sometimes subtly disguised (as seen in the Echo logo art).
Our Web Site URLs Are Changing Too
When Radio 45 launched a few years back were stunned that we saw so many fans from Sweden. Over time we discovered an awesome Swedish radio station titled 45 Radio — and eventually learned that confusion over Radio 45 and 45 Radio generated much of that traffic.
Radio 45’s primary web domain has always been www.radio45.net — but the “dot net” domain doesn’t help distinguish Radio 45 (the band) from 45 Radio (the radio station).
Radio 45 will retain the radio45.net domain, but will add a new primary web site address for “all things Radio 45”. The new domain is www.radio45.band.
Radio 45’s tribute acts will also utilize the new domain name architecture:
